 Who was Jesus

Many leaders throughout history have come and gone and some have left their mark, some for good others for bad. But when look at the credentials of the Jesus of Nazareth, we  are forced ask several questions

Who was he?  Was he a misguided person who somehow got it wrong,

rubbed up too many people the wrong way, came into conflict with the hierarchy of the church, or was he a martyr for the cause, that somehow his name might live on. He made some strong statements, which eventually brought him in conflict and ultimately caused his untimely death or was it.  Some sceptics say that Jesus of Nazareth knew all about the Old Testament prophecies concerning the Messiah and took up the role of Prophet and leader. Yet to fulfil even a small amount of all the credentials of the Messiah would be a tall order.

Looking at the possibility of Jesus of Nazareth being impostor,

let’s look at his family. Firstly he would  had  to have been  born in Bethlehem, moved to Egypt and then moved to Nazareth and belonged to the family line of David (read Micah Ch5 in Old Testament) . Possibly he could fulfil the above, but then he would have to have parents whose line went all the back to Abraham. The  Gospels of Matthew and Luke gives us the evidence of this. The possibility of one man being able to fulfil all these if he was an impostor would so great as be unable to calculate it manually.

How could an impostor rise from the dead?

Some sceptics in defence of these theories say that he did not really die on the cross but went into a coma and when put in the tomb the coldness of the place revived him. This would be impossible .for several reasons, crucifixion was a Roman form of capital punishment, and they knew how to inflict the cruellest form of punishment, and they made sure their victims were truly dead  before they were taken off the cross.

But if He was who he said he was, and he was from God,

had God got it wrong, did events take over and were they outside God’s control, Did  he really mean for Jesus Christ to die. The Bible gives us clear evidence that the events that happened were according to God’s ordained purpose. That is why Jesus Christ could say what he did say,

in John 17:4,5 -I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gave me to do And now glorify me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Jesus makes a remarkable statement to the two on that road,

Luke Ch.24 v 26 “Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory”

Again Paul in 1Cor. 15:14-19 reminds us -If Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are all men most miserable. And if Christ be not raised, your faith is in vain, ye are yet in your sins

These words are vitally important in determining all that has been declared about the Jesus of Nazareth. Who He was and why he came. If he was not whom he said he was, then it has perpetrated the biggest con of all times

You cannot go far in any part of Scripture without meeting something that has reference to Christ. Some prophecy, some promise. A golden thread of Gospel grace runs through the whole  of the Old Testament. It gives us a remarkable insight to Who Jesus was and what he came to do.

The Lord Jesus expounded onto the two on the Emmaus Road, the Scriptures of the Old Testament of the Messiah

the Anointed one)

The two Disciples on the Emmaus Road meet up with a person unknown to them as they are discussing the events that had taken place earlier. That person was none other than the Lord Jesus Christ, The two were perplexed about events that had taken place, all their hopes and dreams had been shattered, for they looked for a leader who would deliver them from their bondage.

Although they had known the Lord Jesus yet they could not comprehend the death & resurrection of the Lord, although he had forewarned them of what

would happen yet they could not believe.

The question we have to ask, was he the anointed Messiah

or was He an imposter?

A Choice has to be made,

what will be your choice?.

What the Bible says

And beginning at Moses and all the prophets He expounded unto them in all the scriptures, the things concerning Himself (Luke 24:44)

They said one to another,”were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to on the road, while he was explaining the scriptures to us?

(Luke 24:32)

These are the words which I spoke unto, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the Psalms concerning me.

And he said unto them. Thus it is written, and is behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead on the third day
